Triptych by Marlene Dumas

We have recently added a beautiful triptych to our collection of works by Marlene Dumas, entitled ‘The Black Man, the Jew, and the Girl’.

The new Dumas dates from 1993 and comes from the art collection of German film producer Claus Boje, who died in August 2023. It was published by Parkett Verlag in Zurich and was published in sixty copies. In addition, twenty Roman-numbered copies were printed.
The copy we are offering is one from the main edition of sixty. The work is framed in a cream-coloured, handmade frame, fitted with museum glass.

Woodcut and lithograph, 25.6 x 63 cm

Leporello
The work consists of three parts, folded as a leporello. In this work, Dumas used a combination of techniques: lithography and woodcut (‘block print’). She provided each print with an appropriate caption: ‘The Black man is tired’, ‘The Jewish nose doesn’t exist’ and ‘The girl can’t help it’.
