Pentagon X by A.R. Penck

From A.R. Penck, pseudonym for Ralf Winkler, we recently added a woodcut to the collection. The woodcut, from 1995, is one from the Pentagon series, entitled ‘Pentagon X’. It is signed and printed on beautiful thin silk paper, in an edition of 98 numbered copies.

A.R. Penck (1939-2017) was born in what was then the GDR, and was banned from the GDR in 1980 because of his allegedly dangerous activities. His graffiti-like style and the use of symbols and stick figures (‘Strichmännchen’) are characteristic of his work.
