Eugène Brands in Noord-Veluws Museum

Until 3 December 2023, the Noord-Veluws Museum is showing works by Eugène Brands (1913-2002). Born in Amsterdam, Brands lived and worked for about twenty-five years, from 1974 to 1999, in Nunspeet.

Brands had a spacious studio built in the woods on the west side of the village, where he could paint work in large formats. This work is central to the exhibition Eugène Brands, Onder de Bos.

Dawn at Venice
In Nunspeet, Brands made his largest canvas, ‘Wide country’ (1976). It measures 2 by 4 metres and is owned by the Cobra Museum Amstelveen. He also painted the monumental ‘Glorious Dawn at Venice’ in Nunspeet, which is included in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. In addition to these ‘Nunspeet paintings’, the museum shows work by Brands from the 1940s and 1950s.

Information
The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays.
