Back in the Olla Art collection is ‘Boréalité V’, a lithograph with central etching by Pierre Alechinsky from 1976.
‘Boréalité V’ is part of a portfolio consisting of five works. In these large works, Alechinsky combined two techniques: lithography and etching/aquatint. Alechinsky applied the latter technique for the central, circular motif. The work was printed on Arches by Jean Clerté in Alechinsky’s own studio in Bougival (west of Paris). The publisher of the portfolio was the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark.
The complete portfolio is present in the collection of the MoMA in New York, among others.
Variant
What is special is that Alechinsky applied a different colour scheme within the main edition. Olla Art previously offered the variant with the central, etched image in red and – apart from the black – a number of light brown areas in the lithographed part. In the version now offered, the central etching is printed in black, and the lithograph has light blue, green and reddish-brown touches.
